Cedrick Wilson (14) was a receiver for Tennessee.

Hamilton High School has named a former Tennessee Volunteer and former NFL wideout as its new coach.

Memphis native Cedrick Wilson will be taking over the Wildcats' football program for his first head coaching job. He replaces Anthony Moore, who stepped down to support his son who is at another area high school, Hamilton principal James Q. Bacchus said in an email.

"It's been a long time coming and it gives me great honor to be named head football coach of Hamilton High School," Wilson said in a text message. "This is truly a dream come true."

Wilson graduated from Melrose High School and went on to play for the Vols. He was a member of the 1998 national championship team. After his career with Tennessee, Wilson was drafted in the sixth round in 2001 by the San Francisco 49ers.

"We are excited about him as a employee, coach and as mentor figure for our student athletes," Bacchus said. "He brings a wealth of experiences to both life and the game."

Wilson was a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers when they won Super Bowl XL after the 2005 season. His NFL career spanned seven years, and he finished with 178 receptions for 2,365 yards and eight touchdowns.

Hamilton was 0-9 last season. The Wildcats have not made the playoffs since 2012.

"I've gained the necessary experiences and I've been properly prepared to take on all the responsibilities and challenges that comes with becoming the new head football coach at Hamilton High School," Wilson said.
