Colts sign cornerback Kenneth Acker

The Indianapolis Colts announced Wednesday the singing of free agent cornerback Kenneth Acker.

A sixth-round draft pick for the San Fransisco 49ers in 2014, Acker has played 40 career games. The 26-year-old was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016, and has totaled 98 tackles, 12 passes defended and four interceptions in his career.

A stress fracture ended his rookie season early, but in 2015 he returned and started 13 games for the 49ers. Three of his four interceptions and 53 of his tackles came that year.

The Colts need secondary depth as they let their best cornerback last season, Rashaan Melvin, walk in free agency. Chris Ballard made that move, in part, so his young players could develop under Frank Reich’s new coaching staff.
