Brock Purdy takes brutal swipe at former San Francisco 49ers teammate

Brock Purdy went out of his way to make a brutal dig at the expense of former San Francisco 49ers teammate Jimmy Garoppolo.

Purdy and Garoppolo were both quarterbacks on the 49ers during the 2022 season, in competition for playing time.

Trey Lance started the season as San Francisco's starting quarterback, with an injury quickly giving way to Garoppolo.

It was not a guarantee Purdy would even make the team out of training camp, as he had to beat Nate Sudfeld for a roster spot.

By the back stretch of the season, Purdy was the 49ers' starter, a position he has not relinquished since. It was also a position he always believed he could be in, partly due to who was in front of him on the depth chart.

'Once Jimmy Garoppolo became the starter [in 2022], I was like I might get some playing time this year. I just don't know when,' Purdy said this week about taking over the 49ers' offensive helm. on the Built4More Podcast.

Purdy led the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game during his rookie season, before suffering an elbow injury himself.

In year No 2 under Purdy, the 49ers reached the Super Bowl and nearly won it before Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs to their second straight championship.

Last year was Purdy's worst in the NFL, as San Francisco did not make the playoffs.

Garoppolo left the 49ers after the 2022 season to become the starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders.

After one year, he was released, and he has been the backup for the Los Angeles Rams ever since.
