New York Giants named 'best team fit' for two notable free agent QBs

The New York Giants will sign a veteran quarterback at some point this offseason, having already visited with Joe Flacco, Russell Wilson, and Jameis Winston. They are also interested -- and seemingly prefer -- Aaron Rodgers, who is in no rush to decide on his future.

Fittingly, Nick Shook of NFL Media believes the Giants are the "best team fit" for two of those players, beginning with Rodgers himself.

Rodgers appears to either be leveraging whatever remaining power he has over the Steelers or genuinely isn't too keen on joining Pittsburgh. I'll end this madness for all of us: Keep Rodgers in New York and send him from the Jets' locker room to the Giants' digs inside MetLife Stadium. He is experienced at dealing with the New York media and could play the rare role of single-season hero for a Giants team that simply needs something better than what it's gotten out of the QB position since Eli Manning retired after the 2019 season. That bar is incredibly low, and Rodgers would clear it if he could replicate his performance from the back end of 2024.

Although many in the media and a slew of fans are annoyed with the wait, Rodgers is, arguably, the best option for the Giants. He is a competent, consistent veteran presence who, despite outside noise, is generally beloved by his teammates. And he has something to prove.

Should the Giants not land Rodgers, Shook feels they would be the ideal fit for Winston, who has expressed an interest in Big Blue multiple times.

I know I paired Rodgers with the Giants above, but they need multiple QB options. We know what the Jameis Winston Experience entails at this point in his career. I don't need to explain that further, so I'm just going to tip my cap to my old pal and former NFL Media newsroom colleague, Yahoo's Matt Harmon, who explained during the Giants' upset win over the Colts late in the 2024 season why this marriage could and/or should happen. That's it. That's the fit.

Winston is an interesting candidate due to his style of play. He has no fear of throwing the deep ball, often to his own demise. He would make the Giants offense far more explosive than they've been in years but would also put constant pressure on the defense due to his high turnover rate.

If nothing else, a Winston-led Giants offense would be exciting and entertaining.
