Paris 2024: Nigeria’s entry list for Relays Bahamas confirmed
Itsekiri, Onwuzurike, Nathaniel, Ogazi, Ojeli make squad
The entry list of Team Nigeria as well as 53 other countries for the forthcoming World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 holding between May 3 and 5 in Nassau has been confirmed by the global athletics body.
A total of 893 athletes from 54 countries are being expected at the event which would be a dress rehearsal of what to expect at the Paris 2024 Olympics Games in June.
According to World Athletics, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has entered for both the men’s 4 x100 Metre Relay and men’s 4x 400 Metres Relay races.

An octet of Alaba Olukunle Akintola, Karlington Anunagba, Emmanuel Ekanem Consider, Usheoritse Itsekiri, Godson Oke Oghenebrume, Seye Ogunlewe, Udodi Chudi Onwuzurike and Israel Okon Sunday have been listed for the 4 x 100 Metres Relay which Nigeria has recorded a season’s best of 38.41. For the 4 x 400 Metres Relay, Sikiru Adewale Adeyemi and seven others Including Dubem Amene, Ezekiel Nathaniel, Samson Oghenewegba Nathaniel , Dubem Nwachukwu, Samuel Ogazi, Ifeanyi Emmanuel Ojeli, as well as Chidi Okezie, have been listed in the squad to fly the country’s flag.
With Olympic qualifying places up for grabs on both days of action, the Bahamas Relays 24 presents Nigeria the opportunity to procure tickets for the men’s 4 x 100 Metres Relay and men’s 4 x 400 Metres Relay.
The World Athletics affirmed: “On the first day, the top two teams in each heat will advance to the final on day two, while also securing their qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In the finals on day two, teams will compete for prize money and obtain Olympic lane seeding positions.”
Incidentally, a total of 32 teams are entered for the men’s 4x100m and 30 are entered for the women’s 4x100m, while there are 32 teams for the men’s 4x400m and 27 for the women’s 4x400m as well as 30 in the mixed 4x400m.
Start lists will expectedly be published by World Athletics on Friday 3 May, while team line-ups will be confirmed nearer to the time of each race.
