Steve Smith odds on to bounce back from his Gabba failure

Greg Davis and Tom HackettThe Courier-Mail

He was the favourite for the most runs and man of the match at the Gabba, but Steve Smith suffered a rare failure. What are the chances it happens again in Adelaide?

Smith’s dismissal for four was the lowest score in Australia’s innings and was his lowest return in a Test since he was dismissed for a duck against South Africa at the WACA in 2016.

But his stellar overall record suggests that back-to-back failures are highly unlikely.

Smith can feast on opposition bowlers at the Adelaide Oval and the $3 is available for him to be Australia’s top first innings runscorer with Ladbrokes, as well as the $6 for him to be named man-of-the-match.

Pakistan are still chasing their first victory in Australia since 1995 and they have never won a Test at the Adelaide Oval, but this is the first time that they have played at the venue since 1990.

Australia are $1.20 to secure a series victory and Pakistan are $8, while the draw is the outsider at $9.

NBL

The Game AFL 2024

It will be one of the biggest games of the NBL season when the Sydney Kings host Melbourne United on Sunday and the Ladbrokes market suggests that it will be a very competitive affair.

The Kings will go into this clash as narrow favourites and the $1.75 that is currently available might be under the odds.

Sydney have won ten of their 11 matches so far this season and they sit on top of the NBL Ladder, but their one loss did come at the hands of Melbourne United and Chris Goulding and his men have had the edge over their rivals in recent seasons.

Melbourne have won 11 of their past 12 meetings with Sydney and they go into this clash on the back of six-straight wins.

Winning on the road has not been an issue for Melbourne this season and they represent great value at their current price of $2.10.

The Brisbane Bullets are favourites to beat the South East Melbourne Phoenix for the first time on Saturday, while the Adelaide 36ers will be the biggest underdogs of the week when they take on the Perth Wildcats in the final match of the round.

A-League

Adelaide United just keep on winning and they will go into Sunday’s clash with the Wellington Phoenix as dominant favourites.

Following their classy display against Melbourne Victory, Adelaide United are $1.53 to make it five wins on the trot when they host the Phoenix and they do look like the safest bet in the A-League this weekend.

Wellington have not beaten Adelaide since 2015 and they have not won at Hindmarsh Stadium since 2014.

The Brisbane Roar will also go into this clash with the Central Coast Mariners as dominant favourites with Ladbrokes, but it is tough to have as much confidence in Robbie Fowler’s men.

Brisbane have won only three of their past 12 games in front of their home fans and they lost their only game as home favourites over the past 12 months.

The Roar do have an excellent record against the Central Coast and they have not lost to their rivals since 2014.

Perth Glory are a great bet to beat Melbourne Victory at $2.50 while the in-form Sydney FC should prove too classy for Western United at $2.36.

NFL

It is all about one man in the NFL at the moment and that man is Lamar Jackson.

There was plenty of debate surrounding Jackson when he came out of college and many experts believed that he would never make it in the NFL as a quarterback.

They have proven to be very wrong.

In the past four weeks Jackson has led the Baltimore Ravens to huge victories over the New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans and the Los Angeles Rams and they average 45 points in their past three matches.

The Ravens are now $3 to win the AFC Conference Championship with Ladbrokes and are $4.75 to win the Super Bowl, while Jackson is now as short as $1.67 to be named NFL Regular Season MVP.

It is another big test for the Ravens this week, as they take on the San Francisco 49ers in what could easily be a Super Bowl preview.

The Ravens are $1.36 and that does look a little bit short, despite how well they are playing.

The 49ers come into this clash on the back of a highly impressive victory over the Green Bay Packers and they have won three of their past five games as away underdogs.

They are genuine value at $3.25.

Best Bets

Racing - Trekking To Win Winterbottom Stakes @ $2.70

Trekking looks extremely well-placed in the Winterbottom Stakes. He finished an excellent third behind Yes Yes Yes and Santa Ana Lane in The Everest before he chased home Pierata in the Redzel Stakes. There are no horses of that quality in this field and he is a good bet to claim another Group 1 win.

NBL – New Zealand Breakers To Cover The Line (-3.5 Points) Against Illawarra Hawks @ $1.90

The Illawarra Hawks may have LaMelo Ball, but they will still struggle to beat the New Zealand Breakers. The Breakers have won six of their past eight games against the Hawks and they have won, as well as covered the line, in six of their past eight fixtures as home favourites for a clear profit.

NFL – New England Patriots To Cover The Line (-3 Points) Against Houston Texans @ $1.85

The New England Patriots just keep on finding ways to win and they should prove too classy for the Houston Texans. The Patriots have won their past eight matches against the Texans and they continue to be a profitable betting play – they have covered the line in 12 of their past 19 matches.

A-League – Perth Glory To Beat Melbourne Victory @ $2.45

Taking on the Melbourne Victory has been a profitable betting play in the A-League this season to date and they are under the odds again for this clash with the Perth Glory. The away side has won the past three matches played between these two sides and winning on the road has not been an issue for Perth.
