This Halloween weekend, it seems only fitting that West Bromwich Albion face the most frightening task the Premier League can currently offer - Manchester City.

The Citizens currently sit five points clear at the top of the league ahead of rivals Manchester United, and have yet to suffer defeat so far this season.

They have already tasted victory at The Hawthorns this season, after a Leroy Sane-inspired display was too much for the Baggies’ brave efforts and set City up for a fourth round Carabao Cup tie with Black Country counterparts Wolves.

Albion fanatics will give their side little chance of gaining a first victory since August, and with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea also to come within the next four games, the current run shows no sign of getting easier on paper.

These five meetings, however, are examples where West Brom have enjoyed playing against the side from the north-west.

City 1-2 Albion - 2002/2003

A bright note from a relatively miserable first season back in the top flight of English football since 1986.

After gaining promotion with City the season before, Albion were looking to avenge the 2-1 home defeat by the Blues earlier that season.

They did so by inflicting a 2-1 defeat of their own, thanks to goals from Neil Clement and Darren Moore.

Albion 2-0 City - 2004/2005

The start of the Great Escape.

Bryan Robson got his first win as Albion boss in January ‘05 thanks to goals from Kevin Campbell and Ronnie Wallwork.

After the late heartbreak at Fulham the week before, Campbell thundered past David James five minutes in to score on his home debut before a brilliant move finished off by ex-United man Wallwork sealed the points.

Albion 2-0 City - 2005/2006

From one end of 2005 to the other, and it was déjà vu.

Kevin Campbell was on the score sheet again against the Blues, scoring the second after Diomansy Kamara opened his Premier League account.

Albion would, however, suffer relegation at the end of that season.

Albion 2-1 City - 2008/2009

Before the likes of Aguero, De Bruyne and Silva, City had trouble keeping out the likes of Luke Moore and Roman Bednar.

Another December fixture, a Christmas miracle saw Moore slot home his first Albion goal only to be pegged back by a fortuitous equaliser.

The Baggies would have the last laugh, however. Following a mazy run by Abdoulaye Meite and a delicious ball from Gianni Zuiverloon, Roman Bednar rose highest to nod past Joe Hart and win the match in injury time.

Albion 0-0 City - 2011/2012

Boxing Day 2011, and only the second time so far in that season that City had failed to score inside 90 minutes.

The other team that denied City's star-studded forward line up to that point? A certain Bayern Munich.

Quite the company for the likes of Billy Jones and Nicky Shorey to keep.

In the season that the Blues would go on to become Premier League champions, this was an impressive result for Roy Hodgson’s men.

It might even have been two points more if Jerome Thomas’ shot hadn’t have blasted off the post.

Probably the loudest The Hawthorns has ever cheered a point, mind.
